| Union says prison plan fallout spreading |

ILLINOIS - The union that represents prison workers in Pinckneyville says up to 160 inmates are being moved to the southern Illinois lockup as part of the state's plan to close a prison in Pontiac. A spokesman for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees says the medium-security Pinckneyville prison can't safely handle the additional inmates. Union spokesman Anders Lindall says Pinckneyville Warden Donald Gaetz (gets) has told workers that prisoners will be moved next week from the Lawrence Correctional Center. Some Pontiac prisoners would then be moved to Lawrence. Gov. Rod Blagojevich wants to close the Pontiac prison to save money. Read more.
