TEXAS - Dallas County's jail problems are at the center of the sheriff's race, but the enormous 7,000-bed system that houses more people than most Texas cities is often misunderstood. Sheriff Lupe Valdez and challenger Lowell Cannaday have differed on the Dallas County jail system's woes. Sheriff Valdez says she inherited the problems, while Mr. Cannaday blames the incumbent. Sheriff Lupe Valdez and her Republican opponent, Lowell Cannaday, tend to simplify the jail situation on the campaign trail. Neither is entirely correct. Read more.
