FLORIDA - The 14th Judicial Circuit has led the state the last two years in the percentage of prison sentences handed down to convicted felons. According to Florida's Criminal Punishment Code, which is listed on the Florida Department of Corrections Web site, of all the felony cases that came before a 14th Judicial Circuit judge for sentencing in fiscal year 2006-07, 30.9 percent resulted in a prison term. In 2007-08, that number was 31.9 percent. That compares to a state average of 18.6 percent in 2006-07 and 20.4 percent in 2007-08. Read more.
