Restorative Justice meeting reflects on good

MINNESOTA - The South St. Paul Restorative Justice Council had an annual meeting for the public Oct. 21 in a colorful, snug room at Kaposia Learning Center. Surrounded by posters and ceiling mobiles with such wholesome pronouncements as "Did you tell the truth today?" "Stop, Breath, Chill," and an explanation of "I" statements, the council reviewed their budget, noting a steady decline in reserves that needs to be addressed.

Jodelle Ista, the lone official restorative justice guide, illustrated her work in the school providing an atmosphere for conflict resolution for students and a dedicated ear to listen to the needs and problems of students. The program was established by residents in 1997 and funded by a grant from the state for staff members at Kaposia and Lincoln Center. Restorative justice involves and empowers victims in the justice process, and encourages truthful dialogue between all parties involved in a conflict. Read more.
