Inmates go to work

FLORIDA - The quiet of the Millville Cemetery was interrupted Saturday with the much needed sounds of weed eaters, clippers and buzzing chainsaws. Eight inmates from the Bay County jail, under the supervision of a detention officer, attacked the overgrown shrubs, trees and plants at the cemetery on Third Street.

"I just like getting out of the dorm," said inmate Ronnie Bunch, 28. "It makes the time go faster." Since taking over the jail earlier this month, Sheriff Frank McKeithen and his staff have created several work crews and sent them across the county to clean up ditches, highways, parks and cemeteries.
