| Cuts costing state millions in overtime |

MICHIGAN - Efforts to cut spending on Michigan's prisons has cost the state millions of dollars in overtime. A report by the Michigan auditor general shows the state spent nearly 67-million dollars in overtime for prison guards last year. They work to enforce rules inside prison walls, but a state audit shows prison guards across Michigan have been working too much. John Cordell, Public Information Officer: "Big, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week facilities or operations like this are going to run overtime, we will always have overtime." A state audit released shows 121 officers each worked more than 1,000 hours of overtime. According to the audit, that's a total of nearly two million hours in overtime last year, but the Department of Corrections officials say they already have a plan in place to fix the problem.
