Jail keeps all beds despite budget cuts

MICHIGAN - Livingston County Jail will keep all its 254-beds open under a proposed contract approved Wednesday. Sheriff Bob Bezotte said this morning that his department’s $15 million budget has been cut by nearly $1.5 million, which comes in the form of lay-offs and buyouts.

Four of the nine employees eligible accepted the buyout deal, which provides 2 percent of their base salary times the years of service. The department has laid off three non-union employees as well as one deputy and one corrections officer. In addition, four vacant deputy seats will not be filled. This means less deputies on the road to respond to complaints. Read more.
