County prevents violent crime

SOUTH CAROLINA - Spartanburg County announces results of a new initiative designed to reduce violent crime. The “Summer of Silence” initiative kicked off in May and results are announced Thursday with the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and local law enforcement.

The goal was to convict and sentence criminals who are likely to become violent, so they don’t have the opportunity to commit a violent act. The groups mentioned above screen potential cases to determine if an offender is likely to get more prison time. Solicitor Trey Gowdy conceived the idea with hopes of preventing violent crimes before they occur. Read more.
