| OpEd: Let jail case to go to court |

TEXAS - The array of stories I've seen during the past month or so about our jails has triggered some thoughts about professionalism and purpose. In September, I read that the Potter County jail had passed an inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, an inspection requested by interim Sheriff Ron Boyter after the jail failed its inspection the previous year due mainly to overcrowding, training deficiencies and poor maintenance. This was, in my mind, a proper call for the sheriff. It was even a courageous call given that his interim status gave him cover to duck the whole issue until a formal successor is sworn in.
