OpEd: Dancing to fewer criminals

CANADA - Saskatchewan has the highest rate of crime and the highest rate of violent crime in the country. And if that wasn't enough we can also take awards for having the highest youth crime rates. Although we have experienced a decrease in the number of offences committed over the past four years, Prince Albert and inner-city Regina and Saskatoon is where most of the law-breaking is going on. Apparently a couple of stabbings, a few hundred car thefts and a lot of breaking and entering are all it takes to be No. 1.

The other day the Herald ran a story about the number of inmates in prison - in fact our jails are packed. Many of the readers found the idea that prisoners sleeping in former workout areas or the racquetball court appalling. The concern came not because of the lack of space, but because prisoners had access to racquetball courts, televisions and pool tables. Apparently, a few of our readers forget that inmates are still people, but that is an entirely different argument. Read more.
