The South Carolina Corrections Department says two inmates at Allendale Correctional Institution were treated for gunshot wounds over the weekend. The agency says it has no suspects and does not know what type of weapon was used. The inmates were found Saturday with "apparent gunshot wounds," according to information on the agency's Web site. Department director Jon Ozmint refused further comment this evening. Inmate Dean Ford approached correctional staff as the general population was being released for the evening meal and asked for medical attention. Officers then found a second inmate, George Brown, lying on the floor near his bed. Both were taken to Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia for treatment. Ford was released, according to the Corrections Department release. The hospital would not provide Brown's condition. The Allendale Correctional Institution was put on lock-down and an investigation was continuing. |
