CANADA - Outraged that a convicted killer is being released briefly from behind bars today, one justice advocate says the public has a right to know why David Shearing will be in their midst. Retired Tory MP Art Hanger, also a former police officer, said the public should know why Shearing is being released into society on an escorted day pass, especially since the convict was denied his request for day or full parole at an Oct. 22 hearing. "I'm concerned with the lack of accountability and the public's right to know," Hanger said. "I don't see any justification for letting out a murderer responsible for six deaths." Read more.
