| Chief blasts cost cutting |

NEW YORK - A state prison [officers] leader has criticized a Department of Corrections cost-cutting plan that includes consolidation of Mt. McGregor housing units. The department has followed up an $84.1 million cost-saving initiative, announced in September, with a second round of cuts totaling $8.4 million. The plan will result in housing consolidation at 15 men’s medium- and minimum-security prisons, merging two infirmaries into one, eliminating all prison farms and a reduction of inmate transports.
