| KVCC offers training program |

MICHIGAN - Kalamazoo Valley Community College will offer a third training academy in February for those aspiring to work in corrections or for current officers who lack certification. The four-week Corrections Academy, which begins Feb. 2 at KVCC's Arcadia Commons campus in downtown Kalamazoo, prepares people for jobs in county jails. The college launched the academy in January in response to state legislation that requires corrections officers to be certified. So far, more than 50 people have gone through the training. More than 20 of them were newly entering the field, and others were current corrections officers, according to David Reid, the in-service training coordinator for KVCC's Kalamazoo Law Enforcement Training Center.
