NORTH CAROLINA - The state expects to send female convicts addicted to drugs and alcohol to Black Mountain by June. A former women's prison will house 50 women at a time who have either been paroled from prison, mostly for impaired driving, or sentenced to probation for drug- and alcohol-related crimes. Men receive drug treatment in Goldsboro. But without a similar residential facility for women, judges have had nowhere to send certain probationers, Department of Correction Assistant Secretary Virginia Price said. Read more.
