NEW HAMPSHIRE - On November 7, 2008, twenty-eight new employees graduated from the New Hampshire Department of Corrections Academy Program. Academy #89 was composed of seventeen corrections officers, and two probation and parole officers. Non-uniformed recruits included two maintenance supervisors, one program administrator, and one assistant vocational education professor. The mandatory nine-week training focused on offender management, inter-personal communication, emergency preparedness, CPR, and ethics. A series of scenarios simulated the daily challenges the cadets will soon face. Security staff was obligated to attend the full nine weeks while non-uniformed employees attended only the educational section. Security staff must also be trained in firearms, defensive tactics, radio use, cell extractions, and searches. The graduates will be assigned to several different locations. Six have been assigned to the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility, two will go to the New Hampshire State Prison for Women, and two will work at the Lakes Region Facility. The probation and parole officers will be assigned to the Claremont and Nashua District Offices. |
