| Corrections coats for the needy |

NEW YORK - Gov. Paterson has authorized the state Department of Correctional Services to hand out more than 7,000 unused coats to shelters and aid organizations across the state. The coats, originally intended to be worn by corrections officers, were rendered obsolete when DOCS went to a new single design that replaced two options, a light- and heavy-duty design. “This is a small gesture, but hopefully these coats will find their way to individuals who need them this winter. It is in the spirit of Thanksgiving that we hope to provide a little warmth to the most vulnerable of our residents,” said Governor Paterson. “During these extraordinarily difficult economic times, we in government must keep searching for innovative ways to help all New Yorkers.” Read more.
