ALABAMA - A judge was asked Monday to let stand his earlier order directing the state Corrections Department to immediately release records in the death of an inmate convicted of killing two Athens police officers. The Atlanta-based Southern Center for Human Rights is also seeking records in life-threatening assaults on five convicts at the Donaldson Correctional Facility and one at the St. Clair Correctional Facility. Circuit Judge Eugene Reese ruled Oct. 6 that the Department of Corrections must comply with the state's Open Records Act and release records in the death of Farron Barksdale.
