WASHINGTON - The county commissioners have scrapped plans to hire additional corrections officers for full-time security at the county Courthouse in the wake of a huge drop in revenue. Instead, the commissioners said they’ll see if they can find another alternative and haven’t eliminated the possibility of contracting out for security — something that’s currently against the county’s union contract. The commissioners had hoped by hiring two additional corrections officers it would bolster the number in the county’s corrections division so that at least one guard could be posted at the historic Courthouse on a full-time basis. The county’s Superior Court judges have asked for additional security for years now, concerned that some of the same folks involved in child custody and divorce cases are in front of them on violent felony cases.
