A federal indictment accuses three corrections officers of attempting to distribute crack cocaine to inmates at a St. Louis, Mo., jail, city Police Chief Joe Mokwa and U.S. Attorney Ray Gruender said last Friday. Sheldon Dorsey, 25, and Anthony Griffin, 44, both of St. Louis, face two felony counts each of attempt to distribute a controlled substance. Vernard Thomas, 43, of St. Louis, was charged with one count. The indictments were returned by a federal grand jury last Thursday but were sealed until the men were arrested last Friday. The men worked at the St. Louis City Medium Security Institution, known locally as the city workhouse. The indictments allege the men tried to deliver the illegal drugs between August and December to inmates in exchange for cash. |
