KANSAS - Each of the women here made a mistake. It's what landed them in a 32-bed facility near the Kansas-Missouri border, somewhere between probation and prison time. Major Tom Bringle has operated the Labette County Women's Correctional Camp for nearly 15 years. Last month, he received a call from the Kansas Secretary of Corrections informing him the camp would close. The state has ordered the Department of Corrections to cut $5 million for the rest of fiscal year 2009 and another $13 million for fiscal year 2010. The women's camp in Oswego is just one of the first cuts. "We've seen the difference we make," says Bringle. "This isn't just people just spending time some place and being let out at a certain date.
