Union criticizes hiring in scandal

NEW YORK - The sex scandal at Gouverneur Correctional Facility is being criticized by one state union leader. The president of the state’s corrections officers union says that situation could have been avoided completely if state workers were employed instead of civilians.

Three employees of the jail, Rachel Patterson, 32, Lisa Vaughn, 41, and Laura Douglass, 38, have all been charged for illegal sexual contact with inmates. All three have been charged for illegal sexual contact with inmates and were civilian employees working in the prison commissary. Read more.
