Association: New laws could cause crisis

NEW ZEALAND - The Corrections Association says National’s plans to make it tougher for the courts to grant bail is a crisis waiting to happen. Repealing Labour’s bail laws is first on John Key’s “do by Christmas” list.

In an attempt to cut the prison population Labour brought in a law last year that denied bail only to those posing a real and substantial risk of re-offending. National also want to deny bail to those who’ve offended while on bail or breached bail conditions before. Read more.
