Offender release programs don't deliver

AUSTRALIA - Three senior Corrective Services officers have undermined the State Government's assurances that it is capable of supervising offenders in the community. Testifying under oath in a Supreme Court hearing on October 27, Viviane Fahs, Sarah Brennan and Rhonda Booby described inadequacies of Corrective Services programs designed to supervise released prisoners who are at high risk of reoffending.

Ms Fahs, head of the Community Compliance Group which supervises such offenders, told Justice David Kirby that current arrangements were inadequate and up to 800 such offenders in regional NSW were "already in the community" but not being properly supervised.
