| Federal suit to take aim at hospital plan |

CALIFORNIA - A lawsuit challenging a federally appointed receiver’s plans to build a prison hospital near Camarillo will be filed in federal court in the coming weeks, a nonprofit group announced Thursday. Taxpayers for a Safe Ventura County intends to use a 1995 federal law targeting prison reform to argue against the legal authority of receiver J. Clark Kelso, who was appointed by a federal judge to overhaul the healthcare system in California prisons to bring it up to constitutional standards. “Our focus is to fund and drive a federal lawsuit,” said Edward Atsinger III, president and CEO of Salem Communications Corp., a Camarillo-based Christian radio broadcast company. “We think it is the best way to oppose this project, under the federal law, which is actually what the receiver is operating under.” Read more.
