INDIANA - An agreement that will end the housing of inmates at the Marion County Community Corrections Center leaves unresolved a nearly $700,000 dilemma. By spring, the four-story building will sit unused -- but the county still holds a lease lasting through 2015 at more than $95,000 a year. Any other use of the nearly 100-year-old building likely would require significant renovation or even a gutting. Its eroding condition was among the factors that led to a lawsuit last year by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, a dispute settled last week by the county's agreement to stop using the center as a jail. Community Corrections and county officials said they would look for ways out of the lease or find another use for the building. Read more.
