Corrections brings clothes, toys to children

KENTUCKY - Tyler Patterson sifted through about four boxes of sneakers before finally finding his size. Patterson, a first grader at Roosevelt-Perry Elementary School, was shopping for gifts at the Preston Highway Meijer store yesterday as part of Louisville Metro Corrections’ Coat-A-Kid Program, which helps children each Christmas with buying clothes and toys.

Thirty-three children from Roosevelt-Perry got to participate in yesterday’s shopping spree, said Kevin Knochenmus, the school’s family resource coordinator. Knochenmus has partnered with Metro Corrections for the last four years in the project. He chooses the students who get to participate and helps them create lists for items they want to buy.
