Sheriff updates commission on jail crowding

TENNESSEE - Sheriff Steve Burns reported to the Greene County Commission on Monday about thus-far successful efforts to retain certification of the Greene County Detention Center, or jail. County Mayor Alan Broyles told the commission that he personally "kind of stayed in the background" when he and the sheriff appeared Dec. 3 before the Tennessee Corrections Institute (TCI), in Nashville.

"The sheriff did an excellent job," Mayor Broyles said.

The mayor said the three committees that met frequently last summer and fall, jointly addressing jail crowding -- Law Enforcement, Courthouse/Workhouse and Budget -- "will be getting back in the groove" for meetings after the first of the year. Read more.
