NORTH CAROLINA - Durham City Councilman Eugene Brown tonight chided state government, calling legislators “indifferent” to the state’s “Stone Age” probation system. During Monday night's council meeting, Brown sent a harsh message to his colleagues that the North Carolina probation system has become part of the "problem rather than the solution" for North Carolinians. "We need to make our probation system a priority," Brown said. "North Carolina has a probation system that is more recognizable for it's failures rather than it's success." According to Brown, in the last nine years about 580 homicides were committed by criminals who should have been under the microscope of the state's probation office.
