| Package spurs lockdown |

OREGON - The Marion County jail and all county facilities near it went on lockdown for an hour and a half Thursday after the discovery of a suspicious package in front of the Marion County Work Center. The package was discovered around 10 a.m., sheriff's Lt. Sheila Lorance said. The lockdown included the court annex and parole and probation offices as well as the jail and work center. Traffic on Aumsville Highway closed at Kuebler Boulevard and Joseph Street SE, forcing drivers to detour, while the Salem police bomb squad analyzed and detonated the package. The scene was cleared at 11:30 a.m. The package turned out to be a bag of garbage left in front of the work center, Lorance said. Deputies do not consider it a deliberate act. |
