MONTANA - The Department of Corrections wants to know how many of the state's colleges are interested in offering classes to inmates in prisons and prerelease centers. The department receives about $70,000 in federal funds each year that may be used to help inmates age 35 or younger access education and training, with the goal of making them employable when they are released from custody and less likely to re-offend. Interested college and vocational technical schools would have to be willing to offer instruction using distance learning technology that could be broadcast to several facilities.
