COs reject contract

MAINE - Cumberland County corrections officers rejected a new contract offer Monday night. Jason Wilmart from the Cumberland County Jail told News 8 late Monday that members of the union voted 106 to 13 against the proposal.

Union employees have been working without a contract for more than a year. Part of the problem began when the county changed health plans and used some of the surplus money to give wage-increases to non-union employees. Union president Will Russell said, "If you're going to allocate a certain amount of money from a plan that over 51 percent of individuals that paid into it are union members, then they should be included when you allocate it for wages and benefits.
