Eight graduate from academy program

WISCONSIN - Eight corrections officers graduated earlier this month from Lakeshore Technical College's first Jail Academy, conducted at the college's Cleveland campus. Over four weeks, the officers gained experience in the areas of behavior control, hostage response, fire safety and correctional law.

According to LTC Criminal Justice Coordinator Dave Kotajarvi, the college plans to hold the Jail Academy twice a year to accommodate the area's sheriff's departments.

"If these officers were not receiving training at LTC, they would be traveling to programs over an hour away," Kotajarvi said. "LTC will hold the academy twice a year — during the fall semester and then again in June." Read more.
