MICHIGAN - The Michigan Department of Corrections -- and state legislators -- must do far better at oversight of a prison health care system that has garnered national shame. Bringing in a new service provider doesn't guarantee the system will be fixed. A state board is scheduled to approve a contract next month with Prison Health Services Inc., of Tennessee, for primary medical services to the state's nearly 50,000 inmates.
