MICHIGAN - They used to be called prisons, but now the politically correct term is “correctional facility.” According to a former inmate who has done time in at least half of the more than 50 facilities in Michigan, the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater is one of the better ones, especially because of the food. For more than 20 years Chef Jimmy Hill has been the Food Technology Instructor at Lakeland, and since 1989, Anthony “Bear” Johnson, inmate # 125208, has worked under him as chef to both staff and fellow prisoners. Johnson is serving a paroleable life sentence for his role in a 1973 accidental homicide in Benton Harbor. He has been eligible for parole since 1985. Warden Carol R.
