WINNIPEG, CANADA - Two Manitoba correctional officers have been fired in recent months after being accused of striking up improper relationships with inmates inside Headingley Jail, a medium-security facility for adult males, the Winnipeg Free Press has learned. The most recent incident involved a female worker who was allegedly caught on surveillance camera engaging in “sexually inappropriate touching” with a jailed gang member, according to two justice sources familiar with the details. Sources say the officer was seen getting her hair braided and exchanging touches with an inmate under a table in the common area of the unit, which houses members of the Mad Cowz and African Mafia street gangs. Months earlier, another woman was dismissed after rumours began swirling inside the jail that she was having inappropriate sexual contact with another gang member, including meeting him inside a storage closet. “There’s a lot of crazy (stuff) that goes on in that place,” an employee told the Free Press on the condition his or her name not be published.
