MARYLAND - Maryland's prison agency says it is moving some correctional officers from the minimum-security Poplar Hill Pre-Release Unit in Quantico to the medium-security Eastern Correctional Institution near Westover to cut costs. Spokesman Rick Binetti says the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is considering similar moves at other pre-release units located near state prisons in Jessup and Baltimore. He says the transfer of jobs from the 142-bed Poplar Hill unit is indefinite but not permanent. Binetti says the move will fill correctional officer vacancies at ECI and help reduce departmental overtime costs. |
