| Family surprised by suicide circumstances |

WISCONSIN - Convicted murderer Adam Peterson's father told 27 News his son's death happened just one day before Melvin Peterson's first planned visit with his son in prison. "I would have hugged him. I could have held his hand," Melvin Peterson of St. Paul tells us. Peterson said his son's mother also planned to visit her son soon. "We can't understand why he would have chosen this course of action, knowing that he had a chance to see his mom and dad for the first time." Peterson said letters from his son suggested he was doing well in the prison environment. Adam peterson pleaded guilty to first degree intentional homicide in the January 2008 fatal stabbing of Madison's Joel Marino. Peterson faced sentencing in February. Read more.
