New details in sheriff discrimination case

NEW YORK - On Monday night, Chemung County lawmakers took their first look at a federal discrimination lawsuit filed against Chemung County Sheriff Christopher Moss.

Arthur Laurey, a corrections officer with 20 years of service in the sheriff's office, filed the lawsuit.

According to court documents, Laurey claims that because of his age and his race he was not promoted to the position of sheriff's deputy.

Laurey is representing himself, and so far has not returned our calls for comment.

Sheriff Moss referred all questions to the Chemung County Attorney's Office, who have not returned our calls, either.

Laurey also filed a complaint with the New York State Division of Human Rights.

However, that case was dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
