MICHIGAN - At a press conference Tuesday, News 10 asked Governor Jennifer Granholm about a looming $1.4 billion deficit for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. We asked specifically about K-12 funding and the corrections department. While she says cuts will be deep across the board, there will be no pro-ration to schools during this year. However, Governor Granholm says "all bets are off" for 2010 as far as school funding. As well, Granholm says when looking at making cuts to corrections, she will likely be suggesting the early release of certain non-violent, non-threatening prisoners to save money, as well as enhancing programs that help integrate those prisoners back into society. |
