IDAHO - The Idaho Department of Corrections is looking into privatizing the state-run prison in Orofino as a way to save money. Correction Department Director Brent Reinke told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the department was preparing a formal request for information to see if any private prison companies would be interested in taking over the 500-bed Idaho Correctional Institution-Orofino. Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has asked lawmakers to cut the department's budget by 12%, or more than $11 million. Reinke says privatization is just 1 of the options the department must consider as it finds ways to cut its budget. |
