A former N.J. corrections officer who took nude pictures of an inmate in her jail cell was sentenced to five years in state prison. Ralph W. Grier, 50, of Trenton was convicted in January of official misconduct for taking the pictures of the woman in sexual poses at the Edna Mahon Correctional Facility in 2002. He was exonerated of charges that he sexually assaulted two inmates. The unidentified 29-year-old woman testified that Grier, who was sentenced Friday, came to her cell while he was on duty on the night of Jan. 2, 2002, and photographed her with a digital camera. She said Grier had befriended her at the jail, where she was serving a sentence for drug and assault convictions, and promised to pay her $150 if she let him take the pictures. Copies of four of the pictures were found in the inmate's cell a month later during a routine search, and she said Grier had mailed them to her. The woman has since filed a civil suit against the Department of Corrections and Grier, a 20-year department veteran, was fired in March 2002 after an internal investigation by prison officials. |
