NEBRASKA - After more than a year's worth of construction, Saunders County is nearing the date to take over possession of its new Law Enforcement and Judicial Center (LEJC). LEJC Director Dan Scott reported that the substantial completion date for the facility is currently set at Feb. 23. If all goes well, that is the date on which Construction Manager Sampson Construction will turn over the keys to county officials. The LEJC project has been plagued early by delays due to adverse weather conditions. It was initially slated to be completed by the end of November 2008. However, Scott said there are a number of things that have to happen prior to the county's acceptance of the building. Once the facility is more or less finished, county officials will do a walk through with representatives from Sampson and create a "punch list," a list of any remaining items that require the contractor's attention. The contractor will then work to resolve those issues. Scott said that this is not an unusual process to follow, particularly given the scope of the LEJC project. Read more.
