| 'No jobs to go' as jail hit by crunch |

UNITED KINGDOM - The company which has run the Bodmin Jail tourist attraction for the past four years has gone into administration. Owners the Wheten family say their tourism and restaurant venture is the latest local business to be hit by the credit crunch. Managing director Simon Wheten said fresh negotiations with the bank had resulted in a new trading company being formed which would ensure the complex remained in business and with it the potential to stave off staff redundancies. Exeter-based specialists Begbies Traynor have been appointed administrators and are dealing with financial claims by creditors. The administrators have been at the jail this week evaluating assets and stock. The jail employs 52 people, and there were no plans to make compulsory redundancies, insisted Mr Wheten. The family purchased the semi-derelict Cornish landmark in 2004, and have ploughed almost £1m into restoring the Grade II listed building and turning it into a historic tourist attraction which includes a museum and guided tours of the once infamous jail.
