IOWA - An autopsy shows that the deputy director of the Iowa Department of Corrections died of a heart attack.

The Cedar County medical examiner's office says that Larry Brimeyer died on Monday at his home in Mechanicsville.

The county's director of medical investigations, Connie Knutsen, says it was first thought that Brimeyer may have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The 62-year-old Brimeyer oversaw the eastern Iowa operations for the Iowa Department of Corrections since 1988. Before that, he was deputy warden at the Anamosa State Penitentiary.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Morgan Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
