WASHINGTON - Washington state prison officials are opening the Coyote Ridge prison expansion to the public for a tour Thursday. The $230 million expansion is intended to make more beds available for medium-security inmates. The expansion creates 2,048 new prison beds.

The state Department of Corrections says the project also was built with an eye on sustainability, including solar panels and energy and water efficiencies. The expansion is slated to open in February.
