FLORIDA - The family of a 53-year-old Brooksville man who died while in custody at the Hernando County Jail in 2007 has filed a negligence lawsuit against the private company that owns the jail. According to court papers made available today, Edward Duritsky complained numerous times about his medical condition soon after he was jailed Aug. 22, 2007, on charges of aggravated stalking and violating a domestic violence injunction. He died Dec. 20, 2007, at the Brooksville Regional Hospital. His attorneys, Jackson Brownlee of Orlando and Jimmy Brown of Brooksville, allege Corrections Corporation of America, medical director Karen Deloreto and an unnamed corrections officer provided "grossly inadequate and incompetent medical care so as to be tantamount to no medical care at all," according to the lawsuit. Duritsky's family is seeking financial damages in excess of $15,000. |

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
|

Know your facts before you make assumptions or judgement. You are reading what the defense attorneys "allege" and want you to believe. And yes Ms. DeLoreto is still employed and has always been a strong advocate for her patients as well as a good nurse. There was no incompetency or neglect in this case. Shame on you!!
Seems like this story is circulating throughout the US. From what I read in various articles it's my opinion this was definitely a wrongful death. They have records indicating the man had medical problems, plus numerous requests for help prior to his death. I also read that they have the director Karen Deloreto on a surveillance tape which reveals her refusing to do anything and walking away from Mr. Duritsky. Can't believe she's still employed. It's ashame people sometimes die due to incompetency. But I guess that's for the courts to decide. Will have to follow this one.
