MICHIGAN - Fixing the nation's correctional institutions is on the mind of many people with costs for running jails and prisons rising along with other everything else. In Michigan, where Bob Gatt of Novi is preparing to run for the run for the Michigan state Senate 15th District seat, solving the problem of the high costs of operating correctional facilities is his number two priority. Gatt is currently the chief of Operations for Oakland County Community Corrections and worked for 27 years with the Novi Police Department. "We have to examine the way we operate our Corrections Department. We're running out of time and we're running out of money. We need fresh, innovative ideas about how to house our prisoner population," Gatt told the Observer and Eccentric news. "During my 34 years of law enforcement experience, it has become abundantly clear that our state prison system is broken. It needs a major overhaul. The State is bleeding money through the Corrections department. It's going to take someone with my background to fix it.
