ARIZONA - The Arizona Department of Corrections has a new interim director. Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday named Charles L. Ryan to temporarily head the agency, filling a vacancy created by the recent resignation of Dora Schriro.

Ryan is a corrections consultant who previously served as a top administrator and prison warden in the Department of Corrections. Brewer also named Charles Flanagan as interim deputy director. Flanagan is a former corrections official who has been working at Cochise Community College.

Schriro was an appointee of former Gov. Janet Napolitano and is headed to Washington to serve in the U.S. Homeland Security Department under Napolitano.
