| Surveillance program eliminated |

KANSAS - Almost three-quarters of the participants in a county program designed to keep local offenders out of prison successfully completed that program last year, but this year the program is trying to determine how to keep running with less funding and fewer staff. In fact, it's been announced that the Central Kansas Community Corrections surveillance program has been eliminated for this year, according to information from CKCC Director Amy Boxberger. "Recently Central Kansas Community Corrections' program was restructured, due to the loss of Special Enforcement Officer Guy Disney to the Barton County Sheriff's Office. Because of budget shortfalls in this fiscal year and anticipating cuts in the next year, Central Kansas Community Corrections has reluctantly decided to eliminate the surveillance position," Boxberger reported. She said it's not certain yet how the work will be carried out. "Staff will seek other means to document compliance outside of the traditional office hours." Read more.
